Gas Introduction

Helium-3 is an isotope gas of helium, with the chemical symbol ³ He. The gas is colorless, odorless, and stable. The high-pressure gas typically stored in gas cylinders has a natural helium-3 content of 1.38×10-6. When its content increases and the oxygen content drops below 19.5%, it may cause suffocation.
There are no neutrons in a nuclear reactor using helium-3 (the nuclear reaction between helium-3 and deuterium only produces non radioactive protons), so using helium-3 as an energy source does not produce radiation and does not pose a threat to the environment. However, due to the scarcity of helium-3 reserves on Earth, it cannot be widely used as an energy source. Fortunately, according to the results of lunar exploration, the estimated helium-3 content on the moon is over 1 million tons. 100 tons of helium-3 can provide the world’s total energy consumption for one year. Developing and utilizing helium-3 in lunar soil will be one of the highly potential ways to solve the human energy crisis.
